Various archaeological sites dating to the Later Stone Age exist throughout South Africa. In this project, we look at the sites which correlate with the Smithfield date range in order to identify where the ostrich eggshell beads were being manufactured. Along with the ostrich eggshell beads, the lithic assemblages for each site are identified in this study. This will allow for an easy contextual reference when performing the usewear analysis of the lithic and ostrich eggshell bead assemblages for Blydefontein Rockshelter.
